461812 2006-06-09 03:55:00 For anyone who is interested you can now download (www.microsoft.com) Windows Vista Beta 2 CYaBro (73)
461813 2006-06-09 04:47:00 "Computers that include Windows Vista Home Premium and an auxiliary Windows SideShow™ display will also allow you to access key data even when your computer is off."

This sounds like a bit of a stretch to me, or perhaps they mean when your computer is off, it's not really off?

I guess it's a really big download?, might blow my whole allowance in one go!

461814 2006-06-09 08:06:00 Yea, it says it's available on DVD (or download) so it must be pretty big. CYaBro (73)
461815 2006-06-09 08:15:00 Yup 3.13 gigs, I ordered it on DVD. Besides all the servers are being hit so hard there's not much chance of getting it by download at the moment. Maybe in a few weeks lol, by then I will have it anyway, also the RC1 version gets shipped later in the year. Looking forward to it.

461816 2006-06-11 02:52:00 Yep it is big, took me 1 hour and 10 minutes to download it on my home 10MB Telstra cable connection finished a few minutes ago, very traumatic experience :) Battleneter (60)
461817 2006-06-11 08:27:00 I downloaded windows vista last night and i have to say what a dramatic improvement windows xp can go get jiggered.Vista has to be the most modern easy to use os ever created , i have 512mb of ram and still have 140mb physical memory to run my pc and so far it hasnt crashed very stable. One thing to note though is that nortons anti virus and mcafee anti virus plus other will not work on vista as yet, But dont panic avast to the rescue they have just put out a newer version for vista so that will work and very successful it is to. 461818 2006-06-11 09:00:00 i will have to test this out asap, watch my computer blow up, etc, from the vista overload, hahahahaha =D Codex (3761)
461819 2006-06-11 09:16:00 I think I got in before the mad rush on the servers - downloaded with GetRight (haven't used that for a few years - still a good app) - was getting amazing speeds!

As far as the OS goes - massive hassles getting it installed (had to do an upgrade on an XP partition) and getting the ATi driver working (think it was because of the old XP drivers sticking around). It's definitely nice to use so far - as is IE7. Having some minor issues with permissions on my XP paritions...

AVG and ZA threw major fits so I installed that free trial of PC-cillin - its good till 31/10/2006 apparently...

Sideshow is an Auxiliary display technology, your computer is still off. Sideshow has cached it into its own computer

461821 2006-06-25 11:19:00 As I was still confused I checked this 'sideshow' out. Great, but I don't have a spare LCD screen on the back of my desktop... I imagine it'll be a good thing for laptop users once they start building laptops to utilise it.

Right here and now it's another useless thing Vista can do (and I DON'T mean that in a flaming way), just not an incentive for anyone that I know of right now to think of Vista.
