701629 2008-08-31 19:55:00 I did a reformat of the HD and now every time I start
the computer it gives me a error message (Windows could not start
because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file. If you press any keys on
the keyboard it reboots. I've tried reinstalling the software but I get
the same message everytime. Windows will not load at all even in safe
mode. I can't get a command prompt to come up. Any help would be greatly appreicated. Thanks hommer428

701636 2008-09-01 04:37:00 Run fdisk /mbr from a floppy or FIXMBR from the recovery console.
It's your mbr that needs to be re-initialized.
You can also try Ghost:Boot from a cd, chose utilities, and edit the partition table-change all values to zero

701637 2008-09-01 05:05:00 Run fdisk /mbr from a floppy or try : FIXBOOT Writes a new boot sector. FIXMBR Writes a new boot record to a disk drive It's your mbr that needs to be re-initialized.
You can also try Ghost:Boot from a cd, chose utilities, and edit the partition table-change all values to zero, personaly, I'd use Ghost

701638 2008-09-01 05:43:00 <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.

that file is the Hardware Abstraction Layer......

this == very bad problem.

if a re-install is no help the i would look at a hardware problem.
