701557 2008-08-31 05:22:00 I am having trouble figuring out what is causing my pc not to start. There seems to be power going to the motherboard and dvd drive. I can't tell if there is power to the hard drive but I don't see why there wouldn't be. All seems to look fine but when I press the button to turn it on nothing happens. I realise there are probably many things it could be but any help would be great thanks. JasonF (11755)
701558 2008-08-31 05:25:00 Whats the specs of it?? Is it AMD / P4? 775 / AM2 ? Speedy Gonzales (78)

701560 2008-08-31 05:40:00 I would open the case and see if something has come off (ie: the power going to something has come off). Speedy Gonzales (78)
701561 2008-08-31 05:42:00 There would be two power switches. One on the back of the case on the power supply and from what you say this is on but make sure this is on 240 rather than 110.

The other thing is to check the output from the switch on the front of the case and also ensure the lead has not fallen off the motherboard from the front of case.

Case power switches can fail.

701562 2008-08-31 05:44:00 I have done this and can't see anything out of the ordinary - have checked all the power cables to make sure none are loose. I have also checked the cables from the power button and they also appear to be fine. JasonF (11755)

To whom are you replying?
A switch can fail on the case. I have had it happen to me.

701564 2008-08-31 05:48:00 Can you hear your hard drive start up? You may need to take the side off the case

Also start disconnecting devices one at a time to see if it's causing problems. Unplug any usb devices, then Keyboard and mouse, then try the hard drives, Power and IDE cables that connect them.

You don't need these devices for your computer to post.

701565 2008-08-31 05:50:00 That was in reply to speedy - how do I tell if it is on 240 or 110? Is there anyway to be sure that its the switch that has failed. JasonF (11755)
701566 2008-08-31 05:55:00 The hard drive doesn't start up, I have disconnected all the stuff you mentioned and still nothing. JasonF (11755)
