701533 2008-08-31 03:56:00 Hi Guys, anyone here fluent in setting up FTP or Web Server and VNC such programs...?

First I'm trying FTP

I'm wanting to setup my computer so I can access files on it when I'm at different locations, I'm still trying to get my head around DynDNS, I have downloaded Serv-U and DynDNS updater and have created a DNS account, Now I am familiar with Port forwarding in my Thompson Speedtouch router (crap one I know) but only for torrent use, Not sure how to setup DNS or port forwarding for FTP.
I can't find a DynDNS setting in my router but it does have a DNS setting...

So far I have manged to create a name server that when accessed through my address bar that takes me to my router homepage so I'm thinking I'm on the right track, maybe...

I'm not sure what client to get or use to connect to my computer, I was thinking that maybe a webserver where I can just use a browser would be more handy, but I will try which ever at this stage.

So can anybody please give me some advice...

Would be great thanks.

701534 2008-08-31 04:45:00 I think you'd find something like "Log me in (secure.logmein.com)" much simpler - sign up and access anything on your computer from anywhere bevy121 (117)
701535 2008-08-31 05:05:00 I have tried log me in, It's quite a bulky program I thought, Plus I still think I have to setup DNS or at least port forward. I have managed to get VNC to work over a lan connection before but not from an outside IP... radium (8645)

You do the same as you do for torrent use for FTP apart from you open port 21 (it could be useful to open up 2121 as well) instead of the port you use for torrents.

A Good FTP server you could try is FileZilla server - filezilla-project.org

Hope this is of some help :)

You need to open that port up on your router, like you do for torrents.
