Motive.exe is Jody our Telecom Broadband help assistant.

See here (telecom.custhelp.com)

We have recently added the ability for Jody to preform a PC Heath Check as well to the list of growing feature set as mentioned in the link above.

Cheers

701397 2008-08-30 12:52:00 Does the Telecom Broadband Help Assistant send any information to Telecom?

Yes. Once you have installed the Telecom Broadband Help Assistant, it sends the following information to Telecom:

*
Your name
*
Your email address
*
The phone number you are using for Telecom Broadband

Does the Telecom Broadband Help Assistant automatically update itself?

Yes...................<cut>
Any new updates will be automatically downloaded and installed.

My Firewall (or Telecom Security Suite) keeps coming up with a message telling me that the Telecom Broadband Help Assistant is trying to access the Internet. What does this mean?

This is quite normal..........

-----------------------------------------
Verizon software - its been around for at least 2 years

Way to go Jody!!

701398 2008-08-30 20:38:00 It also sends:

The Telecom Broadband Help Assistant will also send information about what features of the Broadband Help Assistant you use to Telecom for product improvement purposes.

The Help Code generated by the Telecom Broadband Help Assistant is encrypted and contains PC specific details (e.g. OS, service pack) so that when you pass the Help Code to a Broadband Help Desk representative they can help resolve your issue much faster.

Personally while I wouldn't have a bar of that and would uninstall it ASAP, I can imagine it would be very helpful for Ma & Pa users who get very confused when trying to work out why their broadband is not working. It would save Xtra/Telecom help desk staff going around in circles when the user is not able to communicate or follow instructions very well. :waughh:

Did the install CD clearly tell you it was going to install that helper application and what its purpose was?

this was installed on my parents computer, they get ADSL a week ago, they did the setup.
I had a look over the system and saw motive.exe running.
it looks to me that it hooks into the network stack and so may be ugly to remove.

701400 2008-08-31 11:58:00 It's definitely part of the xtra help assistant, but its own uninstaller should get rid of it, if they don't want it.

If not, perhaps xtra should supply a removal tool! *hint* *hint* to anyone from telecom who's reading...
