2008-08-30 01:45:00 | :angry:angry:angry:angry:angryI have suddenly found that my Firefox browser has been infected with a real nasty, in the form of a real crappy search engine called "Ask.com" and there appears no way to remove it in spite of wide ranging research online. This bit of crap seems to have been written and spread by Yahoo. I have always preffered the Google engine which I had set up as my sole search engine. The Ask.com site gives some information about the site but there is no way one can find out how to get rid of it a sure aspect surely of a virus?. My computer was infected with this malicious crap in spite of extensive protection kept up to date, I assume that it was atatched to some piece of software as a trojan. Can anyone point me to a fix for this that does not envolve a complete deletion of Firefox?

2008-08-30 03:25:00 | did you actualy look at the install options of things have have installed to make sure there is nothing extra (bundled with) the install Like Zone Alarm or Nero for example (both have Ask.com bundled and I think they are set to "install " by default) You have to uncheck the option during the install

2008-08-30 08:22:00 | You can easily uninstall Ask.com Desktop Search at any time. To do so: * Click the Start button in the bottom-left corner of your desktop * Select Programs from the pull-up menu * Select Ask.com Desktop Search * Click Uninstall

2008-08-30 08:27:00 | If you think Ask.com is a bad case of infection, I won't mention Antivirus XP 2008. Ask.com is a genuine website, and merely annoying.

2008-08-31 03:13:00 | Thank you all for your helpful comments, I had already tried all of the sugestions without any success, it is a dam pernatious assault on my computer and to make available such software without a means of removing it is as far as I am concerned puts it into the same class of malware as virus.s,trojans etc and that company should be put out of busines quickly. If the software was any good they would not have to resort to such tactics to get people to use it
