462528 2006-06-12 09:45:00 My main machine (XP Pro) was busy doing its thing with Premiere Pro, the kritters were on the other one (hmmm another XP Pro) and i was looking to go on the internet, in the corner lurked an emac that i had got ages ago. So onto the bench it went, finally found the 'on' button the machine made a "dah" noise, which i guess is a good thing cos it carried on booting up....a round thingy spun for about 10mins so I pulled the plug on it, tried again, this time the round, spinny thing went away and ... 'tally-ho' away we went. [note to oneself, if the keyboard is too close to the machine the cd tray wont open] man, is this thing noisy!! at least with the other machines you can have the box under the bench. Oh well at least it can browse the web, I am so looking forward to the kids getting off the other machine tho. kwaka (10149)
462529 2006-06-12 10:31:00 man, is this thing noisy!!Macs are usually pretty quiet. However, if layers of dust start to build up inside, the fans will start running at full speed to keep it cool. ;) It sounds like you might need to reformat it and reinstall Mac OS if you are getting the spinning beach ball all the time. :) maccrazy (6741)

Nah the eMacs are just quite loud .. I've had to shift them away from some people due to complaints. The mini mac seemed to draw no complaints..

462531 2006-06-12 11:47:00 I thought I'd better give this emac a longer go, checked its OS and its 10.3.2 which must make it a member of the big cats ie tiger, panther, lion or whatever. I have in my clammy hand a dvd with 10.4 on it which must make it a bigger cat (sabre tooth??), just one prob tho, this emac has no dvd drive. did apple produce 10.4 in a pack of cd's? or am i stuck with the old pussy cat? kwaka (10149)
462532 2006-06-12 20:57:00 this emac has no dvd driveYou must have the very first model, that was the only one with no DVD drive. I'm pretty sure Tiger is available on CD as well. :) maccrazy (6741)

You can send the DVD version into Apple pay some $$$ (10 $US) and they send out the CD version. I just use an external firewire DVD writer to install on eMacs I find lacking a DVD reader (and some I found seemed to have issues reading DVDs anyway).
