462628 2006-06-14 21:09:00 The biggest piece of rubbish out - VW Polo .

Why? Expensive parts, poor quality parts .

At 70k the following has gone wrong:

Wiper switch packed up, fixed it, same rubbish design as used to be in the beetles .
Water leak into rear footwell - bad door seal design
Faulty plug leads - bad design with a metal end cap which causes spark to track @ $65 a lead
Cracked facia cover around radio - cheap and nasty plastic prone to cracking .
Badly designed window winder mechanism giving problems
Lately surging under deceleration - not track the problem down yet .
Jerky acceleration when in slow traffic - always been this way, suspect badly designed EFI system

Next car back to Jap Scrap . . .

462629 2006-06-14 21:37:00 That sounds like the throttle plate is sticking .

Got a product called "Berryman's Chem-Tool" over there? Spray some into the throttle body while the engine is off and clean it out gently with an old toothbrush . . . then open it a little and spray in some more and use your smaller finger to swab it around there . . .

Clean out what you can see with a soft rag and then start the engine if it allows, and gently spray in some more as it idles . . . expect it to get confused as you do . . it'll take a little time for it to figger it out . . . especially when you stop spraying .

Shut the engine down and restart without touching the throttle and see what you get .
