464145 2006-06-20 08:22:00 "Yesterday night" is not customary, James.

It should be "last night."

and this is strange because you can say "last night" but not "last day" it would be correct to say "yesterday"

as for the evening you could say "yesterday eveving" or "last evening"

464147 2006-06-20 08:51:00 Good points, Derek - and one of the reasons that every so often I feel thankful I was born in an English=speaking counry & didn't have to learn it as a second language.

Every other language I've learned/dabbled with has rules with only a few exceptions to them.
English (wonderful though it is in its myriad choices of expression) has so many exceptions in both spelling & pronunciation that it must be hard to sort out what the rules are.

So here's a congratulatory clap to those of you on this forum who sometimes struggle to make yourselves understood..
(No, I don't mean you, James. You've the advantage of youth, plus being surrounded by English conversation at school. And you're doing fine)
But I sympathise with those older arrivals here. We do indeed have a darned difficult language to learn from scratch.

P,S. Nice one, zquerty.

464149 2006-06-20 09:39:00 Hmm...

Naturally I was excluding those of us who delight in breaking them for the sheer hellovit.

Edit: So where did my smileys go? The ones that were supposed to be on this..

A picture speaks a thousand of words. Therefore, three pictures speak three thousand words  :D

Thanks zqwerty. (How did your day go? Any pictures on your cake?)

Cheers :)

464151 2006-06-24 11:07:00 "I am at lost..." - Should just be "I am lost.."

".. could someone please draw her out?" - As Jen has pointed out, the "out" is unnessecary here, it should just be "could someone please draw her"
Special thanks to roddy_boy for picking out the grammatical mistake.

Perhaps next time I should use the term "illustrate" instead of "draw" to make my point clearer.

Cheers :)

464152 2006-06-24 13:05:00 Well thanks for noticing my birthday JamesKan, unfortunately I am too old for a birthday cake, but we went to Chch Casino for a good meal at lunchtime.

I was given a dehumidifier for my main present plus plenty of after shave emollients.

Thanks for the pm Beetle.
