701511 2008-08-31 04:57:00 You flick the latches on either side (it'll become loose then). No latches - its that tight cable-tie stuff, that you have to cut to get off, holding the heatsink securely to the board. Hard to describe. I might take a photo of it and post a link here :)

701512 2008-08-31 05:01:00 Thats probably why it doesnt go then, it should be secured with this the 2nd pic (first heatsink) (www.extremetech.com)

The heatsink and the black bit that latches / locks into the retention module on the mobo

If you were in Auckland, you could pick one up here, I've got 3 here somewhere. All you need is the thermal paste

701513 2008-08-31 05:07:00 Well that site gives a few more suggestions, but none seem to match the message I'm getting :annoyed: I don't get any pauses, just changing pitch of the beep, and the number of beeps seems to vary each time I turn it on

Mike.

Well I have run out of ideas other than replace the PC speaker for example.

If you do not get a pause then I guess the POST routine does not communicate with the speaker in a manner that I understand. Possibly the speaker is broken. I have never had this happen to me but possibly it could.

From what you say you have eliminated the VGA card.
You should not have a bent pin on the CPU either as it has not been moved.

701514 2008-08-31 05:11:00 It looks quite dodgy in the pic, but in reality it looks quite well done - very secure and looks like its always been like that (no sign of the normal old clips etc. that you usually see).

701516 2008-08-31 05:16:00 Thats probably why it doesnt go then, it should be secured with this the 2nd pic (first heatsink) (www.extremetech.com)But the computer has been going for a long time (judging from the amount of dust that was found inside) without even being opened, then one day last week it stopped working and started giving this beep.

I'm now leaning towards CPU failure lol
