| 701838 | 2008-09-01 10:08:00 | I hope some one out there can help me with the following: My new PC had XP installed on a physical SATA drive but on the motherboard BIOS it is IDE (Blame the techie). When I change the BIOS setting of the drive to AHCI, XP wont boot because the AHCI driver was not installed during setup (F6 option) of the OS. How do I add the AHCI driver for the SATA drive without reinstalling Windows XP? Would a repair installation work? Thanks in advance. |

| 701839 | 2008-09-01 10:11:00 | They'll be on the mobo cd. You have to extract the SATA drivers to floppy, then press F6 during the XP install. The tech would have put it on IDE mode, to save you from using the SATA drivers. You could try a repair, but you'll probably still have to make the SATA driver floppy |

| 701840 | 2008-09-01 10:12:00 | Two ways. The first is download the drivers, and pop them onto a bootable floppy diskette as per the instructions by the motherboard or hard drive manufacturer. The second is to integrate them onto a custom made XP cd (do it this way and you can add all the latest security updates as well) When you reinstall there is diddly to do as Windows will have the drivers. |
