462631 2006-06-12 19:01:00 I got a bit of a laugh out of Helen Clark's remarks about "unsatisfactory" power supply to Ak.

It's not that long ago that the power supply was owned and operated by the government. They sold it as a going concern to private companies who saw the chance of making money.

Any faults with the supply are the same ones that were there when the govt was running it.
So why is it that blame is being heaped on the power companies. I feel more inclined to blame the govt.

And do the govt. seriously think that the power companies are going to spend their profits on improvements?

I suspect that for the past 6 years Transpower has most likekly been asking Helengrad for money to upgrade but she has other way to spend the tax payers money on every minority group that needs a couple of $mil.

462634 2006-06-12 21:45:00 The "One Wire" people are refering to is an earth conductor used to prevent lightning strikes hitting a live line and sending mega volts back into the transformers and things. Was just unfortunate that the cable snapped and did the damage it was spose to prevent...

Oh well its only Auckland :p

And as for infrastructure the nimbys won't allow anything, new hydro dams in Waitaki, wind farms, more power pylons. Well then expect no power.

I agree. Is anyone really going to pay for backup substations all over the place.
Wasn't the other problem that the power stations north of Auckland weren't working too..
