702242 2008-09-03 08:55:00 Can't backup successfully to DVD+ disk. My writer is a MSI DVD+R DL, DVD R/RW. I want to backup or copy My Docs so that in future can open the disk and read what is on it. At the moment, the contents come up as numbers such as 1~, 2~ etc. Should I be using DVD- disks? Tick1 (6970)
702243 2008-09-03 09:30:00 Wouldn't hurt to try :)

You can get a pack of ten of either +/- from DSE for $10 each.

702244 2008-09-03 10:48:00 What do you mean when you say 1~ 2~ etc?

You're not burning using MS-DOS compatible filenames which will shorten everything to 8+3 characters and end up with things like MYFILE~1.DOC everywhere?

In which case all you need to do is adjust your burning program's settings...

702245 2008-09-03 20:37:00 DVD + R disks are really the successors to the DVD - R disks and are meant to be more reliable, but that also depends on what brand you buy.

702246 2008-09-04 01:22:00 It depends on your dvd burner, some burn better quality with -R, others with +R. But I think the actual +R standard is better, even though -R is the 'official' one. utopian201 (6245)

My curent burner a Pioneer records to any format but data disk burnt to +R disks can't be read unless I import them back with a ISO reader . . No problems with +RW, -RW or -R . For movies it can read -R and +R fine .

I still preferr to use -R for movies and day to day use and +RW for testing purposes . .

702248 2008-09-04 03:06:00 DVD+ standard is better; better error correction etc. Agent_24 (57)
702249 2008-09-04 04:12:00 we only use -R - the +R gave too much problems.

702250 2008-09-04 04:42:00 DVD-R was the first, so it's the most compatible with older drives etc Agent_24 (57)
