701894 2008-09-02 00:02:00 I'm adding a faster and slightly bigger HDD in, and want to make that HDD my main one. So my plan is to install Vista on the new HDD as master, then transfer all files from the old HDD as slave to the master, new HDD.

Now, will reassigning the C: letter from the old HDD do anything to the files on it?

701895 2008-09-02 00:08:00 Shouldn't do, assuming all the docs etc will be put in the exact same place on the new HD (I'm thinking of hyperlinks and shortcuts etc).

Set the old one as slave though, obviously :)

You MAY run into problems activating Vista on the new HD though, given that the Vista license is tied to the HD (IIRC).

701896 2008-09-02 00:23:00 Hmm I mean by changing the C: of the old HDD to something like M or something, because I want to assign C: to the new HDD.

Or can I have more than one C:?

When you have both drives plugged in, the boot drive will be C: and the other will become d:

SO no, there will never be 2 c:'s

701898 2008-09-02 00:30:00 which ever hdd you boot off is automaticly assigned to C:

You would have been quicker to image it (with True image or similar) and write the image to the new HDD.... all done in about 30 mins

Incorrect, as soon as you install another O/S on the 2nd drive, you will have a dual boot system even if both the same systems, however your boot ini will remain on the 1st drive unless you remove the 1st drive 1st!

If I were you, I would just clone the old to the new, then boot to the new without the old drive in, turn off, install old drive, then boot as normal.............
