465164 2006-06-22 05:56:00 I do this drive often. Allow about 5 and a half hours, as from Te Kuiti onwards the road is fairly tortuous. If you are coming latish in the afternoon stop at Tekuiti for something to eat as the cafes at Mokau close about 7pm. I would say, only if you know the Waikato, to avoid traffic at Hamilton and Te Awamutu; turn off at Ngaruawahia and take the alternative route to Otorahanga. jcr1 (893)

Easy driving is 4 1/2 hours. Unless you hit the Auckland speed humps they call peak traffic then it would be more like 6 1/2 hrs.

Don't take the bus It will be really hard on you.Its something like 7-8 hours by bus.I went to visit a friend.It turned out I caught a plane back.haha.It was really hard sitting on the bus for so long.
