I have just moved to New Zealand and I do not know which is the best company to use in order to make cheap international telephone calls. Could you please give me an idea.

Thanks

465053 2006-06-21 18:15:00 If it is to another pc user, then Skype is free to call anywhere in the world, but works best when using broadband. Just try to avoid that company that starts with Tele..something and ends in com. Nyuuji (5460)
465054 2006-06-21 22:21:00 Shush Nyuuji!

Suggest you just use Telecom. Phone costs these days are ridiculously cheap. A benefit of being a Telecom customer is that they have various other services that are real easy to use once you're a customer of theirs (eg mobile and Internet)

465055 2006-06-21 22:37:00 Hi Katherine

Welcome to F1 :)
Greg is right, but for my money I use World Exchange -
www.wxc.co.nz
I have had no problems with them and you can compare their prices with Telecom's

465056 2006-06-21 22:47:00 You may also find those cheap calling cards (Kia Ora, Go-Talk, etc. etc.) sold at some stores are very good -depending on where you call, costs as low as $0.004/minute to certain countries. somebody (208)
465057 2006-06-21 23:23:00 Hi Katherine

I am with World Exchange as well, and they are far better than telecon for prices.
For phoning the uk its great,
I also get 100 mins free national toll calls every month and phoning a mobile is also cheaper.

Or I also use skpye and I just by euro credits and that is even better, it takes agaes for the money to be used up and I don't think it uses any of my monthly cap.

465058 2006-06-22 06:42:00 Hi Katherine
Welcome to PressF1 :D

If you come from the UK then I have found that calling card "Chi-Tel", which is sold in most dairies (ie corner stores, somewhat like "Open All Hours") or newsagents is very good indeed. It is even cheaper to ring the UK than Aussie on it, for some peculiar reason. You may come from China or Korea of course, even with the name Katherine, and so you would find that calling card very good indeed !

May be of benefit to say where you come from as the location makes a lot of difference.
cheers
Misty :)

465059 2006-06-22 10:08:00 I would go the Skype way. I know the cards can be good but the 10euros up front just seem to last forever especially at about 0.03c per minute for Skype out calls and free for Skype to skype calls. My :2cents: theother1 (3573)
465060 2006-06-22 11:32:00 Thank you very much for your replies . Yes I am from UK, however, I have family and friends all around Europe and USA and I'd like to keep in touch with them .

I don't think Telecom would be the best choice, I've heard lots of bad things about it . Calling cards usually have high connection charge and bill per minute . I've tried Skype but the connection is a bit dodgy and it keeps disconnecting every minute especially to long distance calls . . .

I might try World exchange then . . . is there any other cheap company? And also do you know how much it would cost me to have a broadband here?

Thanks a lot again .

465061 2006-06-22 11:56:00 Don't listen to everything bad you hear about Telecom!

Some calling cards are really cheap. My brother uses GoTalk to call his new girlfriend every day in Netherlands (my missus' cousin actually), and pays about .3 of a cent per minute.

As for NZ broadband prices - now you'll really see some sparks fly! My opinion is that the costs are reasonable - I pay 70 bucks a month. But for many people that's over the top, especially leechers that demand unlimited bandwidth.
