464905 2006-06-21 05:34:00 As the title says, can I only charge rechargeable batteries manufactured by Kodak using my Kodak 1 hour Charger? In another words, am I limited to charging only Kodak rechargeable batteries using my Kodak 1 hour Charger? My Kodak Charger has the option of charging either Ni-MH or Ni-Cd batteries.

Cheers :)

Unless they are intelligent batteriies, which have a little computer in them to control intelligent chargers, there should be no propblem. At the worst, the charger would not start up because it did not get a proper signal from the IB.

Individual cells will be fine.

Cheers :)

464908 2006-06-21 06:24:00 I don't think so.i think they stated there just to make you buy kodak battery

I use my GP recharger to charge energerzier,gp and sony battery .

I've also never come across where you can only charge 1 type brand battery on a specific charger.

I think its a lie

I think the meaning was that if the "Kodak batteries" are just individual cells (and not a "pack of cells" that some cameras use) it will be fine.

Some proprietary "cell packs" do have the intelligent charge chips in them, but ordinary NiMh AA cells should be fine. Charge them all together.

Just be sure that any other cells you want to charge are rated at a suitable charge rate.

I have a Nikon "smart charger" that came with a camera and batteries that will only charge some other brands, as the other brands of battery cannot all take a 1 hour charge, they need longer at a lower current. The charger shuts down, as the batteries get very hot.

Another "smart charger" I have takes more than an hour and charges all the various brands just fine.

464910 2006-06-22 03:33:00 A cell is a cell, such as an "AA", or "AAA".

There is no such thing as an "AA battery"

A battery is a number of cells connected together, usually in a single package.

If a charger has a number of stations each of which can hold a single cell it will charge cells from any manufacturer, subject to the restrictions mentioned by GF.

If it is a charger intended for a particular manufacturer's intelligent battery, it might refuse to charge a "foreign" battery. I have a video camera which requires an "Infolithium M". Apart from the proprietary connector(so I can't even plug in another manufacturer's battery), it would not charge any other type. It talks to the controller, and sulks if it hasn't got the exact battery.

464911 2006-06-24 11:00:00 Thank you for the clarification over the terms "cell" and "battery". I am sure the definition of these terms would come in handy in my Physics class - we are studying electricity now.

Besides this, thanks to Ninjabear, GF and GL for their contribution to this thread. :D

Cheers :)
