702043 2008-09-02 11:16:00 By any chance when you double click IE - it creates a shortcut for IE instead of Opening ?

But you can also try this --- Download This Reg fix (www.kellys-korner-xp.com) ( right click it and save as) save to the desktop - once saved rename it to ie_fix.reg

Right click desktop -> Properties->Desktop->customize desktop-> uncheck Internet Explorer

Now open the reg , click start/run Type in regedit

MAKE SURE you get the EXACT RIGHT KEY

Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}

Delete that key {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D} + all sub keys

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\CLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}

Delete that key {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D} + all sub keys

Merge that registry script (ie_fix) into registry. ( right click it/merge)

Last, right click desktop -> Properties->Desktop->customize desktop-> check Internet Explorer hit ok, and ok

See if IE is fixed.

702044 2008-09-02 21:50:00 Once i double click it nothing happens it just highlights the icon and thats it mohadino (14141)
702045 2008-09-02 22:10:00 Some Spyware can act like IE - meaning it can take over IE, so when you click the Icon it runs the spyware - now if thats the case IE will in fact not be the App you are trying to open - try this Try clicking Start and then Run and type iexplore < Press Enter> and see if Internet Explorer starts up OK.

Also work through These here (support.microsoft.com).
