702019 2008-09-02 07:44:00 Hi i was wandering if i would have any problem installing vista on one hdd and xp pro on one hdd but i dont want to dual boot.
Another thing is i really dont want to reinstall my vista again because ive heard that you have to install the oldest os first.

So i was thinking of installing them on separate hdd's and whenever i needed vista ill jus hook up the vista hdd and when ever i needed xp pro i would just hook the xp pro hdd.Would this work or will it cause problems???

702020 2008-09-02 07:56:00 Should be ok, but you'll have to disconnect the Vista hdd, when you install XP (if its on another hard drive).

And then go into the BIOS all the time to switch between the 2 (thats, if one of the function keys, doesnt bring up a bootmenu to select the hdd to boot from)

702021 2008-09-02 09:01:00 Real Easy solution - no mucking about with settings either - What you can do is get two removable Hard Drive trays & Rack. Example Here at DSE (www.dse.co.nz)

That way you have XP on a drive in one and Vista on the other, simply put in the OS you want and boot the system.

A couple of my workshop PC's have this arrangement - I have 7 trays between them with various copies of vista/ XP and can swap between them and they are completely independent of one another.

702023 2008-09-02 18:02:00 There is also this which goes in a HDD bay and allows you to boot up to 3 HDD's individually even a mix of SATA and IDE:
