464780 2006-06-20 10:27:00 Last night we had a localised power cut in Martinborough where I'm visiting. If you want a weird experience - it's surfing the net on your laptop while everything in the immediate vicinity is in black out conditions. Takes more than a power cut to keep me off the net!!! 464781 2006-06-20 10:36:00 I hope that's not a claim for skill, when it was merely good luck.
I doubt the rest of Martinborough would be amused.

I was hoping to do that during Auckland’s big black out, but I never got around to getting my laptop to a jack point (to use 56K) in my house.

What type of internet where u using?

464783 2006-06-20 10:41:00 lol i remember once at a mates place, early in the morning, put the jug on, had the radio going. lights on and wondering why the jug wasn't boiling. the whole town had a power cut and mates place has a few powerpoints and lights rigged to a big UPS system. darn....no coffeee ! tweak'e (69)
464784 2006-06-20 10:45:00 That must have been one big UPS. Was it like those systems used to power emergency lighting in public buildings? somebody (208)
464785 2006-06-20 10:47:00 I have no idea what happened to the title of this which was meant to be Blackout - looks like my air card crashed at the crucial moment.

Not claiming any luck - although as I had taken the precaution of downloading several episodes of Cranky Geeks, DLTV and Nerd Tv before I came over - I had a back up plan for three and a half hours before the battery went flat. Power was back on in two.

ok i'll write this a 2nd time.......bloody net.

i think they run straight 12 vot for lighting etc mates setup is basicly a commerical UPS like what they use for server rooms etc. powered by two big commerical truck sized batteries. 3-4 hour run time by memory depending on load of course.
