| 702735 | 2008-09-05 08:13:00 | My brother is not very good at his times tables (he's 11) and we need to sort this out. What I want is a program that every so often (every 7 minutes, adjustable would be good) asks a random question (from 3x3 through to 12x12), and he must give the correct answer before he can continue to use the computer (UAC style comes to mind ). Does anyone know of such a program, or anyone who can write one?:banana |

| 702736 | 2008-09-05 08:23:00 | My mother taught me times tables in primary school by wrote reptition. I have been able to do my 2 thru 12 x tables back to front and inside out better than ANYBODY I have ever met as a result. So to answer your question - get your parents to do it (like the Tana Umaga advert) and do it by good old fashioned Wrote reptition cause it STILL WORKS! - and - its FREE. |

| 702737 | 2008-09-05 08:28:00 | Thing is, he spends a lot of time on the computer (sounds familiar ), and we can use this to our advantage. (It is repetition. ;)) | pcuser42 (130) | ||
| 702738 | 2008-09-05 08:32:00 | I could probably do something that would generate the tables, but as yet I'm not sure how to set a program to full screen and disable Alt+F4 on it or set any timing on it. You could set a scheduled task for it lol... |

(It is repetition. ;)) Let me know if you get stuck - I could write this, but I'm kinda busy and I don't really like programming under Windows. Bear in mind that CTRL+ALT+DEL/task manager can't be disabled unless you replace winlogon completely. |

| 702740 | 2008-09-05 09:05:00 | He's not likely to know about Alt+F4 or Task Manager. :D BTW this'll be running on an XP PC and our Vista tablet (he has profiles on both). Bear in mind that CTRL+ALT+DEL/task manager can't be disabled unless you replace winlogon completely. There's always a way... |

| 702741 | 2008-09-05 09:22:00 | OK... here it is! This will not run automatically, but you can schedule it in Scheduled Tasks I think. Link: www.sendspace.com Sorry the UI is a bit bland lol |

| 702743 | 2008-09-05 10:12:00 | I like the 'singing version'...if you know what I mean. I do sometimes use a site for my students, which I can pm you if you wish. Call me old fashioned, but the verbal system seems to be more successful. Just as juice suggested. At primary school we had a teacher who would test us with a random times table question which we had to answer before we could go out to play. Guess what? It worked!! Smart teacher. |

At primary school we had a teacher who would test us with a random times table question which we had to answer before we could go out to play. Guess what? It worked!! Smart teacher. My primary school teacher would have us form two lines - boy vs girl - boy vs boy etc and fire off the 3x tables or what ever we had had to learn for homework the night b4 until he was down to the last two students who would keep answering quick fire style until the teacher had a winning pupil - NONE of this "Politcal correctness CRAP" back then. When you WON your times tables you were crowned King or Queen of times tables for that day. To this day I can still fire off the answer to any of the times tables from 2x2 to 12x12 regardless of what I am asked which is more than I can say for most of the people I know or that I went to high school with. |
