702622 2008-09-05 01:34:00 Building a new PC for a friend, mainly for games. What you guys think of the following specs:

Asus P5K-E/WIFI-AP Motherboard
INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q9400 2.6GHz 45nm 6MB 1333mhz C2 Quad Processor
Corsair PC2-6400 DDR2-800 2GB TWIN 2x 1GB
Seagate Barracuda 11 3.5 640GB SATAII 7200RPM 32MB Cache
GIGABYTE N28-1GH-B GTX 280 1GB GDDR3 512-bit PCI-E 2.0 PhysX NVIDIA GeForce dual DVI-I / D-sub HDTV
Thermaltake 750W Toughpower Cable Management ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V/Black/w PFC/ silent 14cm Fan
Cooler Master CENTURION 590 BLACK HD AUDIO NO PSU
ASUS DRW-2014S1T SATA
Samsung 22" Wide 2253BW 2ms DVI LCD monitorRecommendations for better spec are most welcome. He wishes to have a fast machine for his games.

Asus MB vs Gigabyte MB, which is better? Gigabyte has the Xpress Recovery built in which is very cool.

Is this Graphic card good enough?

Is Samsung monitor OK, or should I get a Viewsonic, or some other make?

Cheers

702623 2008-09-05 02:19:00 I like it all except the brand of PSU.
Why not get Corsair? Excellent reviews:

702624 2008-09-05 02:23:00 The PSU is fine, I have a 700w thermaltake, looks great and has lasted 2 years without a burp. zcc (50)
702625 2008-09-05 02:35:00 Corsairs have a 5 yr warranty too. pctek (84)

+1

I have the 620W version of that - very quiet, if a little warm at times, but very reliable.

702627 2008-09-05 02:37:00 I have that same 750W Thermaltake PSU - no complaints at all it's great, but I would get an Enermax next time. wratterus (105)

Any special reasons for that, to share?

702629 2008-09-05 02:57:00 The only reason is the Enermax PSUs are slightly quieter. Only slightly. wratterus (105)
702630 2008-09-05 03:27:00 Quiet shueit. I once had 15 fans running in the thing, and I played games quite undisturbed.

Haven't had experience with Toughpowers, but I've had a couple of Thermaltakes before and they were fine.
