466843 2006-06-28 05:42:00 I know this will be off topic for some, but very much on topic for others .

The question is:

What is the best way to remove Sellotape and its many variants from a computer case and monitor? (without removing paint and decals that are supposed to be there)

Quite why these items get mistaken for a notice board eludes me but they all seem to . :D

466844 2006-06-28 05:46:00 If you don't tape the piece of paper with your password it blows away. :D Graham L (2)

466847 2006-06-28 07:51:00 For those tags where the top peels off and leaves a sticky residue, I have found eucalyptus oil to be a wonderful thing. It will smell for a while but the smell gradually goes. Just apply a few drops to a teatowel (or similar). If unsure whether it will affect the paintwork, try on a small discrete area first.

With old sellotape where the stickyness is no longer sticky and has gone yellow in colour, I have found that a light rub with a slightly moist (not dripping) scotchbrite (I have only done this with older steel cases, but also on the plastic surrounds of CRT monitors - all beige/white. So long as you don't rub one area for an excessive period, you should be fine. Again try on a small discrete area first.
Although if you have a darker coloured tower/case/monitor surround I wouldnt use the scotchbrite

Smells like citrus, feels like oil and removes the adhesive residue.

466849 2006-06-28 08:56:00 There was a post here recently by SurferJoe about WD40 and its uses,

FoxyMX seemed to fancy WD40 as purfume from memory, but I have used it and similar (Selleys RP7) aerosol lubricant sprays to soften the gum residue .

But there are different types of gum, so may need different approaches .

466850 2006-06-28 12:55:00 To get rid of adhesive residue try marking over it with a non-permanent whiteboard marker, then use whiteboard cleaner on a tissue or cloth to clean it off. Greg (193)
