465875 2006-06-25 00:13:00 I know this might come at a rather inappropiate time and all . . . with youse guys just having had the shortest day of the year with your digereedo's all frozen and all, and living so close to the South Pole, etc . . . but:

WE are really getting a heat wave of apocryphal proportions here in SoCal, not to mention obscene amounts of non-photochemically reactive nitrous oxide smog .

I know all the talk about global heating/warming and how it's making the whales sweat and all . . . but what creedence do you feel it really has? (the heat, not the sweating whales)

The old saw about Freon R-12 causing all the destruction to the ozone layer is beyond science fiction . Freon R-12 is many times heavier than air . . . so how's it gonna get to 80,000 feet to affect the ozone layer anyway?

Thinking that some of the scientist say it's cow emissions (bilabial type) from the foods they eat, I wonder if there's not some truth to that . We have quite a few bovines here and a lot of cows too . Hopefully they are not feeding them Wendy's left-over chili!

Now . . . and please try to believe me here: I DO NOT go around checking on cow flatulance . I concede to scientific observations that may date back a few decades when such things were quite the norm for a younger scientist to be set upon by an older professor or teachers to try a theory that they themselves would not do; however old the tests and results were obtained, I accept them as gospel .

So, what exactly is causing this greenhouse disaster? Is it just a cyclical thing? Is the earth about to go through an anti-ice age? Is there a nuclear winter in our future? Will the North Koreans really destroy a US city like Seattle or Los Angeles or Sacramento on Monday if the launch weather's OK?

465876 2006-06-25 00:39:00 Funny you should mention global warming as I was having a discussion about it the other day .

It seems strange that they say the world is warming up when every year for the past three years at least we have had snow here in ChCh . It doesn't always settle at all or settle for very long, but it snows, as in falls out of the sky .

Prior to this year the last Big Snow was in 1992 and that was highly unusual . Before that we had snow fall in 1987 and before that the only snow that I know about was in 1967 (my mother is good at remembering these things :p) .

As far as I know it hasn't snowed in ChCh at all in between those years so why are we getting it every year now?

I reckon we are getting colder, not warmer . :stare:

465877 2006-06-25 01:44:00 Todays Sunday Star mentioned this June is the coldest in 10 years. Brrr...all the heat in the Northern Hemisphere has been sucked out of the Southern. That must be it.... pctek (84)

465879 2006-06-25 02:04:00 It's all quite simple really when you think about it. Quite apart from the gross pollution in the northern hemisphere created primarily by the US and China causing climatic oscillatory extremes of weather, ponder on this:

In the summer in the US and Canada, all the air conditioners go full blast, so whilst it may be cool inside, all that extracted heat is pumped outside, thus making it even hotter.

Then in winter, all those heat pumps are going furiously, sucking the heat in from outside, that's why the South Island has it so cold now

Hell no! I'm in the nice part of the South. Blizzards, snow, storms are all happening further North. Including NORTH Island...haha.
I've been basking in sunshine earlier.

Racey Corolla was purchased, basically the same as the last racey Corolla, except uglier.

465883 2006-06-25 19:36:00 We have been sweating it out at up to 30 to 35 celcius here in germany, and its not even the middle of summer yet, still a month or 2 to go!
Its awesome, I love it,

465884 2006-06-25 21:00:00 Must pick you up on a couple of smallish points there SJ....

I think you may have meant apocalyptic proportions, the apocrypha being something quite different, and we Kiwis are not into didgeridoos, that is an Australian aboriginal instrument.

If there is one thing we are not very keen on, it is being mistakenly linked to our somewhat crass and occasionally boorish neighbours across the Tasman. (With apologies to any aussies living in NZ, especially those who have become honorary Kiwis by frequenting Press F1 :D )

Cheers
