| 467005 | 2006-07-09 06:30:00 | This (www.dse.co.nz) is what I purchased. It's a run out deal on this model and the specs were better than some of the other current models around. The fact that the DVD writer supports RAM was a bonus for me as the DVD recorder I have writes to either RAM or -R. The fingerprint scanner will either keep the kids off it or be useful if it gets flogged I guess. I purchased it from Harvey Norman at slightly better than tricky dickies price, they didn't want to budge at all or offer inducements even for cash. HN did match DSE's price for an extended warrenty. I expect some crap from some, maybe because of the Consumer Guarantees Act but another $50 per year and a 5 year warrenty should cover it in the event of anything dying prematurely. I figure it cuts any hassle with repairs argueing over the CGA and you wouldn't even get a single screw undone in a service centre for $50 bucks a year anyway. Now to burn the recovery DVD's and then put the arsenal of antivirus, protection programs, office etc on then backup and from there it's open for business. |

| 467006 | 2006-07-09 06:53:00 | I'd have to take a proper look to be exact but I'd say in the last 12 months most sold would be: 1. Toshiba 2. Hewlett Packard 3. Compaq 4. Sony Vaio (sales for these have really increased in the last 12 months) 5. Nec/Packard Bell Toshiba is repaired at either Toshiba service in Auckland OR some where like Able Business machines I think. HP, Compaq, and Nec is done at Visual Electronics. Sony vaio at Sony Service in Auckland. Unfortunitly all of the above repair agents more often than not seem to have more work than they handle so often take 2-3 weeks on average to turn around a repair (unless it's a real easy one). Apple service in Wgtn is great for repairs & we see Macs in & out very quick which is great pressf1.pcworld.co.nz Cheers KiwiMR2 I have only bought two laptops for friends and both were ASUS. Neither of them has had to go for repair. I upgraded one with more RAM. If all the above suppliers have more work than they can deal with for repair then I'd be inclined to get an ASUS for myself. Apparently ASUS laptops don't need repair in my experience. |

| 467007 | 2006-07-09 07:21:00 | While I normally shun the "extended warranty" issue on most items, I agree that on a laptop it makes some sense . On my last one that died at 2 . 5 years, a 3 year warranty would have saved me replacing it . The new one was haggled over a bit, and an extended warranty was provided at no extra cost as an inducement, along with more RAM and a carry bag . |
