466996 2006-06-30 00:15:00 Well when I did some research for a customer, Toshiba and the more expensive HP models. The company I talked too said that they had the least problems with these brands. dolby digital (5073)
466997 2006-06-30 00:22:00 I see laptops & pc's go in and out everyday for repair...... based on my own experiance I would rate the laptops in the following order from WORST to BEST from a repair process ( from 1st fault to getting back fixed in your hand) point of view:

Hewlett Packard (home models not business)
Compaq (home models not business)
Packard Bell/NEC
IBM
Toshiba
Sony

I can't comment on the like of acer & asus as we have only sold a handful but out of that handful i haven't seen any back for repair :)

Cheers

466998 2006-06-30 05:10:00 KiwiMR2, how does the repair rate compare with the numbers of units sold? Do you sell a lot more HP laptops and just a few Sony laptops? What about Toshiba, would you sell the same amount of units as HPs? FoxyMX (5)

I'd have to take a proper look to be exact but I'd say in the last 12 months most sold would be:

1. Toshiba
2. Hewlett Packard
3. Compaq
4. Sony Vaio (sales for these have really increased in the last 12 months)
5. Nec/Packard Bell

Toshiba is repaired at either Toshiba service in Auckland OR some where like Able Business machines I think.

HP, Compaq, and Nec is done at Visual Electronics.

Sony vaio at Sony Service in Auckland.

Unfortunitly all of the above repair agents more often than not seem to have more work than they handle so often take 2-3 weeks on average to turn around a repair (unless it's a real easy one).

Apple service in Wgtn is great for repairs & we see Macs in & out very quick which is great :)

IBMs are business machines. I doubt you would find many retail stores that sell them.

467002 2006-07-08 08:28:00 Well I struck out and purchased a Tosihiba if anyone was/ is interested.

Now to flog off the old laptop and a couple of desktop machines...

Not anymore, about 6 months ago the re-launced with Lenovo which caters for home pc's as well :) Bit like Compaq/HP have a "business" range and home range . It looks like Noel Leemings is the only retailer selling them at this stage though .
