I think you may have meant apocalyptic proportions, the apocrypha being something quite different, and we Kiwis are not into didgeridoos, that is an Australian aboriginal instrument. If there is one thing we are not very keen on, it is being mistakenly linked to our somewhat crass and occasionally boorish neighbours across the Tasman. The word "apocrypha," which comes from the Greek word for "secret or hidden," is often confused with the word "apocalypse." In Christianity, apocryphal books are a body of early Jewish and Christian texts that are noncanonical-- not a part of the Bible. They may be orthodox or heterodox; some almost became a part of the canon whereas others never had a chance. Europe was comparatively warm and wet until about 1100AD with deciduous trees growing in Norway . The coasts of North Africa and the Middle East were covered in cedars . Now they are desert . There is geological evidence to suggest fast climate change can occur within a century but whether we are experiencing a blip or a trend is completely unknown . When I was at primary school, scientists were predicting an ice-age . So we simply do not have enough data or knowledge to conclusively say that global warming is anything more than a hiccup . The one thing about global warming hysteria is that it makes us focus on more efficent and less polluting use of resources . If that results in a better environment for us all, that is wonderful . Wrong problem, right result . |
