466700 2006-06-27 11:56:00 What are your thoughts when it comes to prepaid mobile phones?

I currently have an 025 number on prepay and this works fine. My main issue is that I would like a mobile that goes on the 027 network and is prepaid. I would like to have ringtones that are louder than I currently have. This is as I can't hear the phone ring whilst I am in a truck or out on the golf course or even in my car with the radio on.

I don't need a camera, email, wap, txt and I would like to be with the Telecom network.

Changing from Orcon to Xtra and also tolls back to Telecom on the landline.

Get off your tail quick and advise as I am thinking about one of these and will buy in the morning.

Nokia 3155. My current phone is a Nokia anyway.

Thanks for your input.

466701 2006-06-27 12:31:00 Im pretty sure Vodafone designed a simple fone, just a fone and that was it, big buttons and loud.

Not sure if telecom has one, they all got the bells and whistles :2cents:

466703 2006-06-27 13:29:00 Nokia 2280 is your basic no frills phone.
Can do mono ring tones if need be, has a decent loud ringer.

Battery life of around a week if left on 24/7 and in decent range.

Look around various stores for them, they usually around $120. $99 on special.

A bit chunkier than some of your more modern phones but hey, its what's inside that counts :D :)

Thanks for that. In the morning I will visit my local Telecom shop and take the current mobile with me. I'm not worried about changing my phone number. Want 027 and so I can hear it ringing. Budget about $250 - $300.

466705 2006-06-27 16:49:00 If vodafone doesn't renew their free text weekends then it is likely telecom will follow the same move.End $10 text

Do you guys believe so?

Basically the two competitor isn't competing on price but competing against their service and what it can do.So basically earns more by ending free text weekends.I believe telecom will end $10 text to follow telecom

466706 2006-06-27 16:50:00 Nokia 2280 is now a discontinued mobile and is not available on telecom anymore Ninjabear (2948)
466707 2006-06-27 16:59:00 With your budget of $250- $300 you will actually get a pxt,camera mobile.

Now let see..
Telecom Mobile uh...
$250 to $300
Here are the flip models

Nokia 2355
Nokia 225
pantech tx215c
pantech Tx130c

Non flip models

Nokia 6255
Sanyo 4920
Nokia 6015
Samsung N391
Nokia 5125
Nokia 2118
Samsung N415
Nokia 6235

Mobiles that does not do pxt or wap are...

Nokia 2118 and Nokia N415 both retail at $129
and
Nokia 6015 and Samsung N391 both at $149

If you are used to Nokia mobile then I would prefer the Nokia 6235 at $249

It has Wap,Pxt and camera but even if you don't use it its kinda cheap at $249 to have everything. Its got a color screen.
It has speakerphone so that if in need you can switch to speaker mode without holding the mobile next to your ear

466708 2006-06-27 17:02:00 Nokia 3155 if I am right isn't retailed in NZ however it is a similar to model GSm Vodafone Nokia 6101/Nokia 6103 .

The upgrade version of Nokia 3155 is Nokia 6155 but at $499NZ

Your Nokia 3155 is actually a very good phone .

If that was retailed in nz it would cost at least $99

Nokia 3155 shouldn't be compatible with telecom's network?

Thanks for the research Ninjabear. Telecom do sell the Nokia 3155 so I guess it will network with them OK. This is the phone I was thinking of buying and not my current Nokia which is a model 5125.

There are two issues for me and the first is that the 025 network will die in the future and the ringing sound is not loud enough for me to hear with my current 5125. I also want prepaid as my mobile phone usage is very small and mostly used for incoming calls. I can keep it topped up no problem and I know I can get a free phone if I use one of Telecoms plans. Probably I only use $200 in outgoing calls over a year.
