703546 2008-09-08 07:27:00 I *think* my PSU has 20 pin plug and my new motherboard has 24pin socket. The manual says I can plug a 20 pin plug into the socket, I'm just wondering how to align it (or will it only fit in one way?)

I'll know for sure whether the PSU has 20 pins when I open the box on the weekend (or whenever the CPU arrives - its on backorder lol)

Mike.

703547 2008-09-08 07:38:00 If the mobo says it can run on an old 20 pin then yes it will my wifes comp is hooked up like that, the plug will still only go in one way round just don't force it look at the pins some have rounded corners that will tell you which way round it goes. gary67 (56)

703549 2008-09-09 01:38:00 You can also buy 20 to 24-pin adaptors... Agent_24 (57)
703550 2008-09-09 01:42:00 Some 20 pin power supplies do not have enough grunt, check with your new motherboard manual which may specify minimum requirements, [generally 400-W including 15A at 12V]. PENTIUM (426)

Yep, and if the PSU is a dodgy brand, eg Hyena or Super Power, you should look at upgrading.

Yes.

703553 2008-09-09 03:09:00 I fits right down one end, not in the middle. If you look at the socket and plug shapes you'll soon work it out.

As has already been pointed out, make sure the PSU 12v rail can supply at least 15 amps.

It will tell you on the side of the PSU.
