703478 2008-09-08 05:11:00 Hi all

When I built this house I had my modem/router hidden away in a cupboard and cat cable run from the modem to four different locations round the house so I could access the internet from thos four locations.

One of those locations was behind my home theatre rack in my living room.

I now have a PS3 and Xbox 360 sitting in that rack and am going to add a HTPC at some stage soon.

There is the one connection point for wired access but I want to have all three devices constantly connected withoit having to swap ethernet cables.

Do I use a switch or a router to achieve this and is there any set up to do other than just plugging everything in with ethernet cables?

Thanks.

Should just be a case of plugging in everything, so long as your router is configured for DHCP and will assign addresses for your consoles.

I have a similar setup where a portion of my network is gigabit ethernet.
The switch just does its stuff in the background and the other machines network infrastructure don't really know it exists.
