703487 2008-09-08 05:08:00 Time for an upgrade, the mighty 7600GT has been very faithful, and doesn't owe me a cent. It's still a darn good card for the $$ it's worth.

Anyhoo, opinions? I paid $494 for an Asus GTX 260 Extreme.

Just interested in what everyone thinks about it, didn't see the point in going for the 280, I don't need it.

703488 2008-09-08 06:07:00 I would say sensible, but I would have gone for the 280GTX given enough $$$ :D SPARTAN 860 (2618)
703489 2008-09-08 06:19:00 I thought the 4870 was generally considered better value? I had the impression it was between the 260 and 280 but cheaper than the 260.
The 4850 better value still but obviously without the speed

703490 2008-09-08 06:34:00 the nvidia 260 has better cooling onit than the ati 4870 so i think i was a good idea but i reackon i could have got it $50 cheaper 14yopcnerd (14155)
703491 2008-09-08 06:36:00 yea, unfortunately the performance of the cards are highly variable; the 4850 approaches 280 speeds in some games for example, but in others is below 260. utopian201 (6245)

In the event you have to ask advice here about a decision you made regarding a graphic card then may I ask why you seem to feel confident advising others as to similar issues?

I can't actually comment regarding your purchase as I don't have one.

My 7900 works for me.

I'm not asking advise on a card. I did my research, I'm 100% confident in my purchase and I wanted to know what everyone else thought. Simple as that! :)

As for the whole ATI/Nvidia battle, I owned an ATI card once, it underperformed for what it was, and my laptop has an ATI card in it, for the same $$ I could have got an Nvidia one, which I know for a fact blows mine away. Just a personal preference thing, I don't like their software either, but thats just me. And I can say with utmost sincerity that I never want one again. :D

The new ATI cards are great value for money, power wise, agreed. And they STILL have cooling issues, I find it hard to believe ATI have not fixed this. Are they based in Iceland or something?

If you own an ATI card and it works for you, great. I just don't want one. ;)

Oh, and price wise, 14yopcnerd, would it have been an Asus bought from a reputable NZ store with good after sales service?
