703260 2008-09-07 09:24:00 Past = 2 XP Home networked via D-Link ADSL 4 port router. All working fine.

New = Oldest XP Home off network and new Vista Home on. Not working.

Vista has Nortons 360 V2.0 and have configured for the network. Have tried with Nortons off. File and print sharing is enabled with full access permissions.

Can ping both ways. View Network PC's on Vista doesn't show XP PC (shows router) and XP PC can't see anything, errors "network can't be accessed".

Both have internet access and set to same workgroup name.

Have tried with tcp/ip V6 enable and disabled.

Ran out of time and didn't try to access via UNC name. Will try tomorrow when back on site.

Any ideas.

Cheers

703261 2008-09-07 09:35:00 On vista - click Start Orb , in the search type in Network, Select Network and Sharing Center , make sure File sharing is on, and Password Protected sharing is Off, Network Discovery is ON.

Also have a look through This here (technet.microsoft.com)

I have also done a "how to share in Vista" that I give to my customers - download This pdf (dl1u.savefile.com)

IF the above still doesn't work Remove Norton 360 - not just disable it, I personally have had countless problems sharing with Norton 360 installed, every thing is set as it should be and doesn't work, Disable it still wont work - remove Norton 360 and every thing works.

On the Odd occasion you may need to install This patch (www.microsoft.com) from MS on the XP computer - personally never had to use it as long as both systems are set up correctly.

IF that doesn't work try this on the XP computer :

1. Start > Run > regedit.exe
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Lsa
3. Change the value of a key called "restrictanonymous" to 0 instead of 1 or 2.
4. Don't change "restrictanonymoussam" value.
5. The value should be REG_DWORD and Hexadecimal Base. (That's the default for that key)
6. Restart your computer.

Went back to site and all was well :) and could see other networked PC both ways. Not sure why it sorted itself out. I restarted both PC's several times before I left the other day so who knows!! :badpc:

Anyway all good and client happy:banana

703266 2008-09-13 01:30:00 Norton is well known for causing strange problems. If you don't get rid of Norton, the problem will probably resurface at a later date. Greven (91)

Usually If there are still problems I remove all the security, not just disable , as Nortons can still cause problems in disabled mode, then try to fix any network problems. Then once working reapply the security software one at a time, that way if something turns turtle you know whats caused the problem.

Anyway all good and client happy Thats the main thing- happy customers come back if future problems arise.
