702964 2008-09-06 16:42:00 Hiya had probs with my PC not booting up so took it to a PC repair shop that found that the part on my hard drive that holds the boot-up info was corrupt, they istalled a new hard drive but managed to keep the old one as a 2nd hard drive as the rest of the data was good on it

I am now trying to access my files on the old hard drive under documents and settings\user but it wont allow me to access them - how can I access the files? I did set up user accounts on this but they were not password protected...

I'm on XP...

PS I'm no techy so advice in laymans terms please!!

Ta,

Matti

This article describes how:-
support.microsoft.com

Hope this helps.

Hiya,

I've tried to do this already - when I right click on the folder then go to properties, there is no 'security' tab for me to click on... :( !! any other ideas???

702967 2008-09-06 19:17:00 Probably because youre using XP Home. Which wont show a security tab / it doesnt have the security tab.

You need XP Pro for the security tab

Do it in safe mode
