| 469194 | 2006-07-07 02:47:00 | All good things come to an end. Our VERY old VCR a Mitsubishi HS-E31 has finally expired - didn't even have enough grunt to expel the last tape we tried. And the remote (its 3rd one) also went beserk. So we need a new one. We do need a tape deck not a DVD. But which one. I would like to have the facility we had on the Mit - in other words the facility to have the tape record the day, time, and channel it was recorded. This seems to be missing these days on the ones we have seen. Also friends in England have tape decks that will also record the subtitles on teletext. I get the feeling I am asking for something not available in NZ so would appreciate all and any comments. Tom |

| 469196 | 2006-07-08 05:10:00 | Thanks PCTEK. I had in fact done a lot of travelling around in Christchurch checking out various offers and ended up with a Phillips combined VCR/DVD which so far has really delighted us. Though I was a little surprised to find it cannot be programmed with the numbers quoted in newspapers. Not that I have any problem there. I have always programmed the things myself anyway. I was amazed to see Black Diamonds advertised in Trademe. Which made me wonder if my Black Diamond is in fact a Black Diamond. I always thought it was but it is VERY old and the ones advertised look different. I am astonished that old VCRs not working should fetch such prices. I don't think there is anything wrong with my Black Diamond? that couldn't be easily fixed but crikey I don't want anything for it. Includes the manual - free to anybody who can pick it up. Tom |

| 469197 | 2006-07-08 08:25:00 | VCR's are almost obsolete technology these days. When we have to replace our VCR I think I would go for something with a hard drive. Being able to watch the start of a show while it is still recording the end appeals. Also no more rewinding. | tutaenui (1724) | ||

| 469199 | 2006-07-08 13:07:00 | Oh the good old Mitsi vcr's . I have a soft spot for them . It's worth noting that "Black Diamond" is an advertising/marketing term rather than a model . I worked in appliance retail sales, service and rentals through the late 80's till 98 . Mitsubishi NZ (Melco Sales) hit on a winner when they introduced their range of vcrs as Black Diamonds back in the late 80's (or early 90's, my mind is foggy) . The phrase strick a chord with the public, everyone seemed to be asking for a Black Diamond! There was the HS341's and 347's then the e10/20/30's, e11/21/31's, MX1/MX3/MX5, and so on . Mitsubishi's main selling point was the ease of programming, the Panasonic scanner idea had it's day but it didn't really have the same impact as the Mitsi system . They then introduced a range of TV's called "Black Diamond" . They then did a sneaky, bringing in rebranded Taiwanese junk that carried the "Diamond" name . We sold and rented truckloads of them, so it was a success story, I hate to think how long they actually lasted though . Ahhh the good old days of retail, when you liked your job, people appreciated what you did for them and you only worked 5 days, with an occasional Saturday morning . |
