| 468312 | 2006-07-04 04:20:00 | Hi all, Just a quick query. How many devices can you run off one ADSL filter? Would a standard filter be ok if i had 3 devices running off it? Cheers |

| 468313 | 2006-07-04 04:54:00 | I use one standard Nokia ADSL plug-in filter to supply the entire "phone" circuitry in the house. That's 4 phones and one fax. |

| 468316 | 2006-07-04 06:42:00 | Be aware that using these devices other than intended can cost you if the wiring in your house is damaged and Telecom have to repair it. Oh for crying out loud! How the hell can you damage a Telecom line by using filters or any other Telecoms device? That is just blatant scaremongering, either that or technical ignorance, take your pick. I rank this post not too far off your "firewalls make the sky fall in" posts. Sheesh. The average house full of phones, faxes, modems and alarms etc won't load down the Telecom line at all, let alone damage it, and filters make no difference to the loading, they just make sure the DSL outlet is isolated from the rest of the gear connected to the line. Cheers Billy 8-{) :groan: Of course "other than intended" could mean you were trying to run a couple of heaters off the line (not that this would damage it though), or using it as an extension lead between rooms, which might interrupt service. :D |

| 468317 | 2006-07-04 07:53:00 | Anyway we decided to buy a proper filter that you attach to the line as it comes into the house... we thought it would be better just incase something happened to our phone system and telecom said "its your fault" etc etc | Dannz (1668) | ||
| 468318 | 2006-07-04 08:18:00 | I used a Dynalink Microfilter because it has a nicely made case, opened it up and attached flying leads. Then connected it up to the phone junction box in the loft to feed the phone lines, and ran cat5 cable down to an RJ45 socket I'd fitted in the wall. A very simple job with no possibility of damage to the phone wiring whatsoever. None whatsoever. | Terry Porritt (14) | ||

Terry also describes this in his post. Just making sure. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

Telecom has probably screwed its contractors down to a fixed price per incident . If they find some non standard bodge up that takes more time to sort thasn usual, they'll cry foul . Edit . Internal wiring is yours, the only problem come when you expect non standard arrangements to be fixed under a maintenance contract . Anyway we decided to buy a proper filter that you attach to the line as it comes into the house . . . How long have these been on sale? The splitter has been restricted to Telecom installers in the past . |
