| 469663 | 2006-10-07 22:11:00 | um.. when i started driving i was told to do that but now..i jz use both feet when i'm in that situation.. if i know i'm gona have to stop on a steep hill..i'll stop..and then let my left feet take over the breaks.. then when i need to move again..i gentlly accelerate then quickly lift my left feet off the breaks..and sorta the same effect achived with handbreaks..just..don't have to take my hand off the wheels.. not sure if this is good practice or not..but easier done than using handbreaks for me How many "left feet" have you got? Are you a politician ? PJ Sorry couldn't resist it . pj |

| 469664 | 2006-10-08 01:17:00 | Would the above apply to a CVT transmission.? Hmm....not my forte' there....those are still new in the field...but I will try to digest some of it... There are a few different designs in CVT's that are still in the shake-out stage....after a few million more miles...but the jury's still out on reliability and stamina like the Hardley Davidson's gilmer belt secondary drives. In designs that I have any info on, there is no forward or reverse range clutch packs...just reversal of flow via the omnibelt when it runs over the added reverse idler. As one can imagine that isn't quite the same thing. I don't see any of the same design flaws or weaknesses with the CVT's as in a fluid-operated transmission; but both designs have weak links. |

Must say ,the CVT transmission seems to be becoming more ubiquitous in this part of the world, suggesting to me that they have or are overcoming the problems that the belts had in the beginning . |
