468332 2006-07-04 11:09:00 Thanks, Billy.

Between you & Terry, I should be able to draw myself a diagram, once I've digested it all.

Absorption time another day...

I found it very interesting a couple of weeks ago that we lost the use of our phones for almost a week but the internet (ADSL) still worked .

Granted, it dropped off a few times, once for a couple of hours, and was a bit flaky every now and then, but it worked most of the time .

Don't know how it all happened but when Telecom checked the wire out in the street they said they had fixed it but they hadn't . Eventually, after contacting them again, they did something in the "office" and we finally got the phones back again . Pity it had to take them almost a week to do it . :groan:

What I still can't understand is why the internet still worked and not the phones?

Did you get noise on your line, or was it just dead?

468335 2006-07-04 11:42:00 Because back at the exchange the "internet" is branched off before the wiring continues to the telephone equipment. What you should have trouble understanding is why it took them almost a week (unless you live in an area buried in snow). PaulD (232)

No noise. Just totally dead.

We were buried under a couple of inches of snow for about half a day . In suburban ChCh, not out in the wop-wops .

And yes, I do have a lot of trouble understanding why they couldn't fix it immediately considering the information given ought to have helped with a diagnosis .

Now I have the most enjoyable task of trying to claim back the cellphone charges for call diversion that have somehow ended up on my IPS's account instead of Telecom's . :(
