703523 2008-09-08 05:38:00 I'm thinking of upgrading my Computers RAM to 2gig and not too sure what type of Ram.

I'm running a Dell Dimension 4600 and have done a crucial scan and it says my motherboard doesn't support ECC. Does this mean i have to purchase non-ECC? such as this link here Link (www.gpstore.co.nz)?

I haven't upgraded my comp before (as you may see) and really am in need of some help :P

703524 2008-09-08 05:50:00 The link doesnt work. Most computers use non-ecc. ECC is usually used for server-based systems I think

I would say it uses DDR 184 pin ram.

I think this is your system here (support.dell.com)

Have a read of the info under memory

703526 2008-09-08 06:02:00 That ram should work, if the system you've got has a 800 FSB CPU in it.

As the site I posted says, if you want dual channel (if the system supports it, it probably does), buy pairs (they have to be the same (identical - brand/speed etc)

703527 2008-09-08 07:31:00 Hey Jared. I too have a Dell Dimenision 4600, and yes, you have to use a non-ECC DDR RAM.

Cheers :)
