| 704392 | 2008-09-11 04:50:00 | Well never owned a laptop before, and the girlfriend has put it upon me to choose what laptop to get her Basically, 1k budget. give or take a hundy Ram doesn't matter, can be upgraded. OS doesn't matter, i have xp pro at home that isn't in use anymore. HD isn't highly important space wise (although a 7200rpm would be nice, and space ot install a second HD) What is important is: -Warranty, if this thing craps out then we don't want to be stuck with a boat anchor -CPU, really after a C2D -GPU, 8600m GT would be delicious, but something decent eh. Saw www.dse.co.nz when quickly browsing, but don't really know what laptop brands are good anymore (also intel based gpu kind of puts me off, but hey they're pulling into the pro gpu market soon with their line of cards coming up so i guess they're doing something right) Anyone know what I'm after? any help highly appreciated... |

An Eee PC by Asus might be OK for her - Asus have just released the 1000H model, which is small (but not as small as the previous models) and costs about $1000. It has no CD/DVD drive though, and the processor is single core. |

| 704395 | 2008-09-11 05:09:00 | Nope... Every Eee PC has an Ethernet port and 3 USBs. It's the MacBook air that (infamously) has no ethernet and 1 USB port  |

| 704397 | 2008-09-11 05:21:00 | and space ot install a second HD) Good luck with that. I've never seen a laptop with a second internal HD. I'd opt for a big single disk, unless you want an external HD or flash drive cluttering up everything. |

Link: img375.imageshack.us I'd put it down to "user error" I think :p But look through the images HERE (www.laptopmag.com) and you'll see the full selection of ports it has. Geekster: I have seen a number of new laptops with dual HDs... Dell's Studio 17 and some Asuses have them I know - but mainly the high-end ones. |

| 704400 | 2008-09-11 05:29:00 | We are looking at getting another one here for family use & the Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 is on the short list at present. It's got everything we need & the reviews arn't to bad. If you want horsepower & grafics, get a desktop system. |
