704378 2008-09-11 04:17:00 I have a old P4 2.4GHz system that beeps occationally from the internal speaker for no apparent reason. Its a P4B533 mobo running XP SP3 stock standard.
I've been waiting for something to crap out, but it runs faultlessly other than that.
Everything is up to date. I've cleaned it out, so it not overheating.
The beeps are usually single & can vary in tone. Scrolling can start it off.

704379 2008-09-11 04:26:00 Usually the system will beep when keyboard or mouse input cannot be processed because the system is busy

So it could be a software problem. Malware is a possibility..

704380 2008-09-11 04:50:00 Might try another mouse.
Currently using a Microsoft IntelliMouse.
Using the scroll wheel can make it happen.

704381 2008-09-11 04:58:00 No that didn't fix it. Deffinately something to do with the scrolling action though. If I scroll up & down in this forum I can almost play a tune. Driftwood (5551)
704382 2008-09-11 05:25:00 I think that you can configure windows to been at certian events. It's under accessibility options stuff (the stuff for disabled/impaired people). ubergeek85 (131)
704383 2008-09-11 13:12:00 is this a PS/2 mouse or a USB one? when you use the scroll wheel i assume it still scrolls but just beeps when you do.
check accessibility options and the driver

704384 2008-09-11 22:13:00 Both mice tryed are USB.
Scroll works fine.
No drivers installed.
Accessibility options are all default.
All settings on this system are default.
I don't think this is a mouse problem.
Although when I get a chance I will try a PS/2 one.
As stated before there are no other problems with this system.
It runs Avast Home & Super Antispyware. Both are updated & have been run.
CCleaner has also been run.

704386 2008-09-13 00:05:00 When the beep happens, does the PC stop responding to whatever input was happening at the time when the beep happened?

It could also be some kind of voltage issue, perhaps the PSU is getting old and isn't supplying good power anymore? what is the PSU and have you tried another?

704387 2008-09-13 00:46:00 Just go into your Sound properties, playback settings/devices and turn off/mute your PC speaker :) feersumendjinn (64)
