470637 2006-07-14 00:20:00 I have a diredt debit with telecom for my phone bill. They send me a note saying what the bil is and the date they'll take it out of my account. Works fine. :)

I've just had acall from them saying would I like to move to a new system where I log into MyTelecom, find the details of my bill and I can print them off myself for a hard copy record. Well I said what's in it for me? Sounds like a system whereby the cost and time of the billing system is moved onto the customer, reducing Telecom's costs and enhancing profits. The guy was very polite and all that, even laughed when I said to him to tell his boss I'll take it on provided I get a discount for doing it. Not an option. :yuck:

Anyone else been contacted/know anything about this?

Cheers m

470638 2006-07-14 00:31:00 Not been contacted here, but i direct credit them, with a fixed amount each week, as a automatic payment, seems to work out ok, and if needed to i top it up when the bill rolls in .

but just to confuse the issue . . . . . . . . . . . i got a bill yesterday from a energy company for this house, the company i dont use, and its a bill for gas, which this house doesnt have . . . . . . . . . . . how can ya deal with that sort of ????

470639 2006-07-14 01:49:00 Sounds like a good idea to me. Now that I have tolls with my ISP and the Telecom bill is exactly the same each month I was considering switching in order to save a few trees until I remembered that I need a copy of the invoice for tax purposes. That means printing out a copy so it's going to cost me for the ink and paper rather than Telecom. FoxyMX (5)
470640 2006-07-14 10:12:00 My feelings exactly FoxyMX. Seemed to me like a slick trick. It's called 'outcosting' in the economics books. Shifting operational expenses outside the organisation. Yes it is a good idea, but not advantageous to the consumer. mark c (247)
470641 2006-07-14 10:29:00 They're not called "TeleCon" for no reason. zqwerty (97)
470642 2006-07-14 16:27:00 The basic idea is far from new.
Several firms I deal with have offered me - by mail -the option of getting monthly accounts either by email or logging in to their website.

The savings they would make that way are simply good business practice. I know Ihug offers it also. Doubtless there are others.

But if mark c has had a personalised phone call, we can assume 1 of 2 things.

(a) All Telecom customers can expect another unsolicited phone call from someone they've hired on a temporary contract to work through the subscribers list...
or
(b) Mark has that X factor that means he warrants a personal call.

(Or perhaps his name is just high up on the list? Shhhh....I can't believe I said that)

470643 2006-07-14 22:02:00 LOL Laura - yay could be the X factor thing but more likely my surname starting with a 'c' means I'm near the top and there aren't any Telecom customers here whose names start with a or b .

I am surprised no-one else has been contacted .

470644 2006-07-15 12:40:00 I have a diredt debit with telecom for my phone bill. They send me a note saying what the bill is and the date they'll take it out of my account. Works fine.

I also have a direct debt and they send me an e-mail each month with the same details as quoted above. If I want a printed copy of the bill I can log on to "MyTelecom" and print one.

What's the problem exactly?

470645 2006-07-15 13:05:00 If you read the whole thread, you'll see it relates to a telephone call. Laura (43)

Just like Mark and I said - you will pay for the ink and paper instead of Telecom . They save on envelopes, postage, paper, printing, etc etc but those costs are transferred to their customers who will have to pay to print out their invoices .

It would save Telecom a fortune if we all switched but they are not offering a discount for it .
