470406 2006-07-13 01:39:00 "On October 10, 2006, Microsoft will end all public assisted support for Windows XP Service Pack1 (SP1). After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide any incident support options or security updates for this retired service pack under the policies defined by the Microsoft Support Lifecycle policy."

And

"5 years Mainstream Support at the supported service pack level for Consumer/Hardware/Multimedia products and Microsoft Dynamics (formerly Microsoft Business Solutions) products"

Gee, has it been 5 years already?
And who cares? What exactly is Public Assisted Support anyway?

As for updates, well I've posted my opinions on that before...

He should say what he really means:" Buy Vista, Buy Vista"

470407 2006-07-13 01:45:00 Heh, yeah. SP3 is planned after Vista... But probably after Vista release they will drop XP, and work like fiends to get Vista SP1 out, which you can then treat as Vista - Final Beta. Then hopefully Vista SP2 will come out, which will bring it up to scratch so us consumers can comfortably use it. mejobloggs (264)
470408 2006-07-13 02:11:00 And by the time Vista SP3 is released they may have addressed the numerous security flaws and added in the additional functionality missed when Vista originally released! Chemical Ali (118)
470409 2006-07-13 02:12:00 And you won't be downloading the security patches. They will come on douible layer DVDs. One a week. :D Graham L (2)
470410 2006-07-13 02:34:00 And then by the time I'm a granddad (my kid is 2) Windows will release the first beta version of the followup OS to Vista :p Myth (110)
