470351 2006-07-12 11:01:00 A British outfit called New Economics Foundation has produced an index which takes into account the traditional statitics such as life expectancy and satifaction, and also "ecologial footprint" to produce the Happy Planet Index. The report is available as a .pdf here (www.neweconomics.org) (1.7M in size). It is a big read, but well worth it. It is comprehensive and well reasoned, but some results are counter-intuitive.

The list is topped by Vanuatu, followed by Colombia and Costa Rica. Australia is at 139, and the US is at 150. Others are Japan (95), Britain (108), Canada (111), France (129).

Really sad bast@rds live in the Ukraine (174), Swaziland (177) and Zimbabwe (178 and last).
