Google or wikipedia "Cloud Computing".

Google's slowly moving a lot of traditionally OS based tasks online, and while chrome is just a browser, if it starts linking in with google docs/calendar/gears then it's starting to look like traditional uses for the OS are coming under threat.

You still need an OS to use chrome, but it just makes some of the OS features that little bit redundant.

I think that you are seeing what I am seeing. Windows (any version) is up & running. How long before Google pulls it all together as an OS? The downside of that for me is that I want all my data on my computer, not theirs. PJ

704239 2008-09-11 06:19:00 A friend of mine said this when asked about linux oses.

'Linux? Is that a type of mint?'

Says it all, most people don't have a clue what Linux is. (OS market shares report that 1% of all users use linux.)

704240 2008-09-11 06:21:00 Poppa john, is isn't going to challenge Windows, because current download and upload speeds in NZ isn't going to handle an OS that is online. Anyway, Chrome is a BROWSER and in runs IN windows.

EDIT: Sorry double post :(

Oh dear, I make my living teaching endusers and corporates how to use SuSELinux on the desktop, but if you say that no-one knows what it is, I'd better close up shop before I get any richer! :nerd: :p :D
