| 469771 | 2006-07-12 16:13:00 | First of all: I know NOTHING about soccer . . . er football to youse guys . . . but I think like a few others that the post headline could have been slight different without letting the cat out of the bag . . . Might I suggest that a mod go back and change the post title to something less revealing . . . . er . . . . like: "France Makes First Offensive Military Action Since The Battle of 1443" BTW: a nation-wide poll was released here in the US that found most Americans are bored by soccer/football and don't tune in . Suggestions for improving the viewability factor to Americans included: Make the goal 1/16th of it's current size to force accuracy . Give the goalie a stick for defense . Give the players sticks to hit the ball . Make the ball smaller, even solid rubber to increase personal discomfort if players get hit by it . Make the field much smaller . Move the whole game indoors . Decrease the number of players . Play the whole game on ice . Now . . THAT might be a game that the US could get behind! Nyuck, nyuck! |

| 469775 | 2006-07-13 21:26:00 | I was (still am) in France when the final was on. In Sarlat if anyone is interested. Awesome place, very old buildings (medieval times) and lots of castles around to see. They had a massive screen set up in the town square and there would have been about 2000 people there watching. It was very interesting watching them react to all the different aspects of the game. All shouting "Allez le blues!" even though Italy were wearing blue in the final. They are good losers though and still let off fireworks at the end. |
