704360 2008-09-11 22:31:00 I heard that Vista OEM links its license to your motherboard, so if you change computers, you cannot reactivate. Yes technically thats true, the same for XP BUT you usually can reactivate - if you have a board failure and when its either reinstalled or repair installed if it doesn't activate you simply call MS tell them the board failed and they give you a new 42 digit activation code over the phone and away you go.

You get the usual questions - is it installed on any other PC's etc.

BUT I usually beat them to the "Punch" when I call I introduce myself and Company tell them the customers board failed, which has been replaced, and the product key is not on any other PC as far as I'm aware and need a new activation code please - usual response - " thank you sir for that information, generating a new code for you, only take a minute - OK click in box A type in the following numbers"
