470829 2006-07-17 05:17:00 Glad I didn't have to learn to speak English as a second language.

With a vowel removed, it could just as easily look as if it was powned
or pewned
or puwned
or piwned
or pywned
None of those looks any stupider than the "correct" one.

Hard to guess if you're French, Chinese, German.or Spanish.
Or me.

Edit: Very interesting, zqwerty.

Awww!

That's easy too...

Place your tongue behind your molars and twist it to the left (right if you drive on the other side of the road), and pronounce the "PFTQH" consonant combination in Farsi with a Korean accent, all the while inhaling thru your nostrils. Remember that the first three vowels in Farsi are silent and are replaced with a long "m" if you use the Southern dialect.

470833 2006-07-17 05:42:00 There are replies fighting each other to get out, SolMiester.

But I have decided to have a ladylike afternoon - from now on.

Edit: And as I've just followed Joe's post & swallowed my tongue, that settles that, doesn't it?
Laura (43)
470834 2006-07-17 05:51:00 Laura It's pronounced "owned" - it's just the spelling that's l337.
Joe - it ain't a Kiwism.
