704297 2008-09-10 23:24:00 Have friend's Toshiba laptop with Vista Home, 512Mb RAM and dial-up. (Sigh). Installed AVG and went online for updates successfully until a 16 file 10Mb one, which said "update failed, not enough memory". Well! Is there a work around for this, apart from getting more memory? locobill (11977)

Vista can't run acceptably on 512MB. It's cheap. At the very least, add 1GB, adding 2GB would be better.

You'd expect to pay around $50 -$65 for 1GB, or $70 - $95 for 2GB.

Also Avast Home is much better than AVG Free for a free AV solution

704300 2008-09-11 00:41:00 Toshiba laptops usually have laptop memory modules. Don't be surprised if it costs more. PENTIUM (426)

Ahh, of course it has laptop memory, it's a laptop.

The prices I mentioned were for DDR-II Laptop RAM, which the new Toshiba will have...

If you were to shop around you could find DDR-II Notebook RAM for much cheaper too.

Deal!!! :D

Yep, very easy . On the new Toshes, there's one small philips screw you remove on the back, clearly labeled with the universal laptop RAM symbol, and whack whatever size you want in!

704304 2008-09-11 01:49:00 Any of them are. Unscrew the compartment cover underneath.
Insert module.
Do screws back up.
