| 470099 | 2006-07-11 10:42:00 | news.bbc.co.uk Microsoft is urging an estimated 70 million users of Windows 98 to upgrade as it ends support for the software. From 11 July, Microsoft will no longer help users over the phone with any problems they have with the ageing operating system. The firm will also stop providing security updates for Windows 98 from the same date. Support for the software was originally due to end in 2003, but was extended following customer protests. |

| 470100 | 2006-07-11 11:10:00 | I think a lot of people will be waiting for vista to come out before buying a new computer instead of upgrading from 98 to XP, makes perfect sense to me | plod (107) | ||
| 470101 | 2006-07-11 11:18:00 | Vista will (perhaps) be worth buying 2 years after release. Otherwise be prepard to pay a premium for it, Spend way to much on hardware to run it, and to get bowled over with security holes. Wait, I forgot DRM, Funk Vista. |

Let the money roll in... :D |

| 470105 | 2006-07-11 13:25:00 | I think the main thing is now that all hardware manufacturer can stop providing drivers for 98. | SKT174 (1319) | ||
| 470106 | 2006-07-11 21:50:00 | I think the main thing is now that all hardware manufacturer can stop providing drivers for 98. Well that never happens the minute MS don't support something. People with older computers who don't have the hardware to run XP, never mind Vista (And I'm with Metla on that one), shouldn't think this matters. Because it never has. I still own DOS6.2 |

I was listening to a podcast the other day and they were saying that sales of home computers has dropped and this is being blamed on the vista launch delay |
