469809 2006-07-10 07:02:00 Also just go direct to the horses mouth and look at the Seagate, Western Digital and Maxtor websites and check for technical papers.

Interesting paper to be doing!!!! Doing a Uni course or just a hobby? ;)

469811 2006-07-11 01:17:00 At the risk of stating the obvious, to make a hard drive in golf or cricket you need to put more effort into it..... andrew93 (249)

Thank youWanna make a hard drive? Get a map, work out the quickest way from A to B via the best roads, then go any way other than what you just worked out. Do not ask for directions, and just keep driving till you get to where you aim to be.

That ought to do it. ;)

Sorry.. i just couldn't resist.

469814 2006-07-12 08:18:00 Your first line of approach should be to go to a computer shop/repairers and ask nicely for a broken/dumped hard drive.

Then carefully take it all apart so that you can see what parts it has in it.

If you really really mean how are these parts made, then you are entering a completely different world of production engineering, and the machine tools and techniques used, from super precise manufacture through to common or garden die casting, press-work and printed circuit board manufacture. You will not find that sort of information on the net, or at least it is highly unlikely you would find it all together.

469815 2006-07-12 08:45:00 You may have to ask a manufacturer for that information, but the manufacturing process may be considered proprietary information by most, each believing that their processes are better than their competitors so you may not get much help from them.

You won't get a lot of help here either if you continue to bite back like that. If your question wasn't adequately explained, you can't blame us for pointing you at sources that explain how they work.

I assume that you have been through the self-help process via google and other search engines?

Good luck with your search.

Cheers

469816 2006-07-12 09:15:00 To those having a wee bit of fun ... remember this is not a good idea with a new member. You have no idea whether they will appreciate your comments to their serious question, and it may put them off if they feel you are being smart and they are being made fun of. As you can see, it didn't go down too well. Best leave those sorts of comments to the regulars who you know can take it.

Terry's and Billy's replies explain the difficulty in answering such a question.
